Our pastoral care is outstanding as recognised in the ISI 2010 report and the pupils are nurtured, cared for and supported by dedicated staff. At Bishop Challoner we believe that if children are happy they will make good progress and thrive in a happy secure environment.
Each pupil’s personal development is watched over by a Form Teacher. In the senior school, Heads of Section (Years 7 – 9; Years 10 & 11) are also there to ensure the progress and security of the pupils. A full programme of Personal, Social and Health Education is followed in the Senior School. Where sensitive matters are dealt with this is always in keeping with the teaching of the Catholic Church.
We recognise that children are more likely to achieve their potential when they are happy in their learning, well-motivated and proud of what they have achieved. As part of our pastoral care system, credits are awarded regularly. These may be for positive attitude, excellent effort, high standards of work, showing care to others, taking responsibility. All credits awarded are converted into house points which are accumulated as part of the whole school house system.
All pupils are in one of the four Houses which are part of the pastoral system running throughout the school from nursery to sixth form. The senior school elects Senior House Captains and Vice Captains each year and these pupils represent the senior school in House activities.
