Dance is explored within weekly performing arts lessons. There is the opportunity to perform in key stage three shows as well as the whole school production. We also take part in an annual dance competition held at another local school.
Extra-curricular and Trips
We offer a West End theatre trip and in recent years we have been to see Billy Elliot and Lion King among others.

Morning sessions are available for year 9 as an introduction to GCSE dance, which is currently offered from year 10.

Why choose dance GCSE?
GCSE Dance helps students develop technical and expressive skills as well as knowledge and understanding of dance through performance, choreography and critical appreciation of dance.
This four unit specification enables students to:
- increase their confidence and self-esteem
- employ the skills of problem solving and creativity
- make knowledgeable decisions about dances.
It allows students to actively and physically demonstrate their abilities through the controlled assessment, which is worth 60% of the qualification and the practical exam, worth 20%, as well as the critical appreciation written paper worth 20%
This course provides a solid foundation for a career in dance or performing arts and/or further studies in dance or performing arts, including A-level Dance.
Unit 1 42301 – Critical Appreciation of dance – Written exam paper 20%
Unit 2 42302 – Set study – Practical examination 20%
Unit 3 42303 – Performance in a duet or group – Practical performance piece controlled assessment 20%
Unit 4 42304 – Choreography – 4a Choreograph a solo for yourself 4b Choreograph a solo or group dance, both controlled assessments 40%
