In year 7 and 8, pupils have one 40 minute PE lesson (on-site). Units of work are taught in gymnastics, fitness, table-tennis, basketball, cricket and tennis. The key skills in each activity are taught in isolation and using games for understanding. Pupils are encouraged to analyse their own performance and that of their peers and set targets for improvement.
Pupils in Year 7, 8 and 9 receive one 2 hour Games lesson, often off-site. Activities include: football, hockey, cross-country, rugby and athletics. We make use of the excellent facilities at the HSBC sports ground in Beckenham and Norman Park Athletics track in Bromley.

GSCE PE Pupils in years 10 and 11 all receive a 2 hour Games lesson. Fitness lessons take place at Beckenham Spa after a full induction of the facilities. Traditional team games such as rugby, football, hockey and basketball are all still offered, however, pupils are afforded a greater degree of choice, with activities such as dance, table-tennis and rounders. In addition, all year 11 pupils have the opportunity to achieve a first-aid qualification.
We have Games Captains in each year in the senior school who are responsible for helping organise teams, events and equipment.
The GCSE course is 60% practical and 40% theory. Pupils are assessed in four sports and have to produce a personal exercise programme as part of their controlled assessment. Theoretical components include study of the cardio-vascular and respiratory systems, reasons for participation and nutrition.
Additional opportunities are available in KS4 for pupils to assist during clubs to develop leadership and coaching skills. See extra-curricular clubs timetable for schedule.
