Extended Project Qualification

In addition to their A level subjects, students can choose to do the EPQ. This course allows students to explore a particular topic that they are interested in, which may or may not be directly related to a student's main programme of study.

Key Stage 5 (Years 12 & 13)

Students embarking on this course must be self-motivated and willing to work independently. The EPQ is intended to encourage creativity and curiosity. A finished product may take the form of:

a research based written report
a production*, for example a charity event, fashion show or sports event
an artefact*, for example, a piece of art, a computer game or realised design

*A written report must accompany these options.

Students must record their project process in their Production Log, which will also be assessed. During the EPQ, the student will learn to:

Manage – identify, design, plan and complete a project, applying organisational skills to meet their stated objectives.
Use Resources – obtain and select information from a range of sources, analyse data and use it in a relevant manner.
Develop and Realise – use a range of skills and make decisions that enable them to achieve their aims.
Review – evaluate the outcome, including their learning and performance.
