Challoner Football team vs Dutch ASC Ajax

We were delighted to welcome back our footballing friends from ASC Ajax of the Netherlands who came to visit us again on Friday 5th May. We reacquainted over lunch on the lawn and the players from both teams enjoyed a chat and a few team photographs.

We then set off to Bishop Justus School for some friendly games. ASC played Bishop Justus in the first game and were narrowly beaten 2-1.  We were all impressed with their style of football. It was then Challoner’s turn to take on the strong and determined Bishop Justus. It was a fast and furious game with every ball being contested. Thomas led the team exceptionally well, giving clear instructions from the back. We created numerous chances, but struggled to make the breakthrough. Eventually, Shomi found the space inside the box to drive a low shot into the corner. The game finished 1-0.

Next we faced ASC Ajax who had beaten us 7-1 last year. We continued in the same form. Emmanuel and William were like two titans at centre back and nothing could get past them. Nicholas and Wesley controlled the game from midfield and Shomi and Michael posed a constant threat to their defence. Goals from Shomi and Wesley put us two up and our confidence grew. This was by far the best we have played this year. Daniel, Jacques, James, Cameron, Louis and Charlie (all Year 7) looked comfortable playing against older boys and have really added to our squad. The victory was capped by an outstanding individual goal from debutant Josh who dribbled past two defenders, before slotting home from 12 yards. This was a fantastic afternoon that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The PE team would like to give a special thank you to school sports Captain Allessio and Deputy Head Girl, Maddie, who helped give our guests such a warm welcome. We would also like to congratulate Covenant, Charles and Dante for their top quality coaching.
