Bishop Challoner places a great deal of importance on sport. We believe that there needs to be a healthy balance struck between academic and sporting activities for a well-rounded education. We believe in healthy competition – so we compete against other schools in most of the team games. We also hold competitions in school – often based on the House system.

We have a Gymnasium and outside facilities on site. We also make great use of the HSBC sports ground at Beckenham Junction and the athletics track at Norman Park. Plans are underway to build a separate sports hall on site as well.

For more detail please see the PE Department.

The close connection between good physical health and fitness and the highest levels of intellectual attainment are now well known. This is one of the reasons why we encourage a diverse and challenging sporting programme spanning rugby, soccer, cross-country, basketball , hockey, netball, athletics, swimming and fencing.

Our sports programme is designed to allow everyone to find the physical activity that will suit them best, providing opportunities for the stronger performers to excel and the weaker ones to develop their skills. The specialist teaching in the Junior School allows for easy transition into the Senior School where GCSE and 'A’ Level are available as options.

As well as the school grounds and gymnasium we are fortunate to have the use of quality facilities at Norman Park and the HSBC Sports ground in Beckenham where Games sessions take place every afternoon.

Many school teams are established in a wide variety of sports. This encourages team building skills, a sense of purpose and an increase in confidence.

Fencing has a long and distinguished tradition at Bishop Challoner School. The Fencing Club exists to give the opportunity for pupils from age 7 upwards to take part in competitive fencing. Past and present pupils have achieved impressive results at Borough, County and National levels.
