Extra-Curricular Activities

Extra-curricular activities

At Bishop Challoner we recognise that much learning takes place outside the classroom. Extra-curricular activities are of enormous benefit and give opportunities for the children to further develop skills of teamwork and cooperation while encouraging greater independence and building confidence. All children are therefore encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities. There are different opportunities for different age groups and the range of school club activities may vary slightly from one year to the next, but clubs regularly offered include:

  • Ballet or modern dance
  • Bundles of Fun (an Arts and Crafts club)
  • Challenge Club (Problem solving and strategic thinking)
  • Chess
  • Fencing
  • Gymnastics
  • Hockey
  • Junior Choir – from Year 3 upwards
  • PE/Games club

There are also opportunities for children to have individual music tuition, with a number of peripatetic music teachers giving lessons on a range of musical instruments. Details are available at the school office.

For working parents who need extended care for their children, Breakfast Club is available from 7.30am. At the end of the school day, the Crèche is available until 5.30pm. There are additional charges for these facilities – details are available from the school office.

There is also a Homework Club for pupils from Year 4 upwards. This is a place where pupils can study quietly and complete their homework and is available until 5pm each day.
