The Junior School
The Junior School seeks
to consolidate and extend basic skills in a warm and friendly environment.
Classes are small enough for every child to receive individual care and
attention whilst benefiting from healthy competition. Pupils are stimulated
and challenged well beyond the boundaries of the national curriculum.
At this level studies broaden with the introduction of a first foreign
language. Upper Juniors have the additional benefit of being taught by
specialist teachers, often using facilities within the Senior School such
as science laboratories and the Design Technology workshop. The Junior
School has its own Information Technology suite and each classroom has
one stand alone computer.
Class teachers take daily care of their pupils and are responsible for
their progress and pastoral care. Progress is monitored closely and parents
are kept fully informed. Parents’ Evenings are held once a year
and detailed reports are sent home twice a year. In addition parents are
welcome to come into school to discuss their child’s progress at
any other time.
As pupils progress through
the Junior School study skills develop and a more independent approach
to learning is encouraged. Homework, which is set according to age group,
is a vital part of this process. Teachers have high expectations of their
pupils and good work and effort are rewarded with praise, stars and certificates,
which are presented during assemblies and published in the weekly newsletter
to parents.
All pupils have weekly lessons in Physical Education and our teams often
enjoy competing with those from other schools. The after school PE Club
is very popular, as are other activities such as drama, chess and fencing. |
