Nursery

The nursery school at Bishop Challoner is a happy and inviting place. It allows children between from rising* 3s - 4 ½ to develop skills and make academic progress in caring, friendly and stimulating surroundings. The nursery participates in the Nursery Voucher Scheme. Copies of our most recent successful ISI report are available on request.

The overall aim of the nursery is to encourage good social skills, an enthusiastic approach to work and a real sense of fun and purpose in learning . A variety of good quality educational toys is an essential part of the learning experience because children learn through play. As children progress through the nursery school the work gradually becomes more structured as preparation for life in the Junior school.
The nursery curriculum is divided into six areas of learning :

• personal, social and emotional development;
• language and literacy;
• mathematical development;
• knowledge and understanding of the world;
• physical development;
• creative development.

Each area of learning has a number of relevant early learning goals. In addition we can offer : French, Gym class,musical activities, Ballet and Modern Dance.
The nursery boasts good facilities, including access to areas in the Junior School which allow the very young child to feel part of the wider school community. It also ensures an easy and confident transition to Junior School, safe in the knowledge that the initial experience of school life has been happy and successful.

*  Rising 3s is the term in which the child turns 3 years old eg a child born in March may start Nursery at the beginning of the Spring Term (January).
