HOW TO APPLY

We are pleased to announce the introduction of additional Sixth Form Scholarships at Bishop Challoner School. These include Academic Scholarships along with the 1950 Byrne Scholarship to celebrate the founding of our School.  They are available to both current and external students and are awarded for academic excellence and potential.

Sixth Form Scholarships

These are awarded on academic merit and potential and usually carry with them the award of between 5% and 50% of fees for both years in the Sixth Form. The maximum Scholarship that can ever be awarded carries with it the award of a term and a half's tuition fees (or 50%) in accordance with the Bishop Challoner School agreement.

It is a very great honour to be awarded any Scholarship and their worth is recognised by universities and other institutions of Higher Education. It may be of considerable weight in an applicant's favour to be able to note this distinction on his/her UCAS application form.

A candidate who is already in receipt of a Bursary will need to re-apply for the Sixth Form and this will be dependant on continuing assessment of need, effort and good behaviour. It should be noted that any award of a scholarship would not be affected by this except insofar that the sum total of monies received might not be more than the total tuition fees payable.

Pupils may hold a scholarship and a bursary on condition that the total value does not exceed that of the full tuition fees.

The 1950 Byrne Scholarship

This is awarded on academic merit, commitment and wider contribution to school life at Bishop Challoner.  This Scholarship will carry an award of fees to the value of £1,950 per annum for the candidate's two years in the Sixth Form. It carries with it a particular Bishop Challoner honour since it commemorates when the school opened in 1950.

Scholarship Application Process

All Students wishing to apply for a Sixth Form Scholarship need to complete the Scholarship Application Form at the back of our booklet.  This needs to be returned to Mrs. Barry, the Headteacher,to be considered for a Sixth Form Scholarship.
