Helpful information to answer questions from children

Week commencing 23rd March 2020

Online learning is now underway.  The teachers will be monitoring the work being undertaken and ensuring the work continues to be delivered. The school site remains partially open on a vastly reduced service to children of key workers and vulnerable pupils. Even in these groups, we would urge you to support social distancing and keep children at home.

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Trustees

Announcement of School Closure

(Please refer to the Headteachers regular letter updates sent via email for full information)

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic we have continued to follow the advice of the government and kept Bishop Challoner open. I am very grateful for your support and words of encouragement in what has become an increasingly challenging time for everyone.

As a result of the government’s announcements yesterday evening, regrettably we will be closing Bishop Challoner on Friday 20th March from 3.25pm for senior pupils and nursery and junior pupils should leave at the normal time at the end of the school day. After school clubs, homework clubs and crèche will not be available on Friday. During the course of Thursday and Friday, teachers will be ensuring that the guided home learning that has been set up across the junior and senior departments is working well for all pupils.

We recognise that some pupils may find this enforced school closure unsettling and accessing the online resources will require a great increase in independent learning skills. Pleased be reassured that our pastoral team will be available to offer support to all pupils. Any concerns should be addressed to Form Tutors or Head of Sections. Further support is also available from the SENCO ( and Designated Safeguarding Lead ( Our School Chaplain, Mr Lohan and School Counsellor, Mrs Ropkins will be available to offer extra support. Email addresses can be found on our school website.

We will continue to monitor the situation as closely as ever and keep the school community informed of any updates.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the pupils, staff and their families at this uncertain time.

Kind regards

Paula Anderson
